Café-Restaurant MILO

"Perhaps the most attractive space in the new Vienna MuseumsQuartier..." Neue Zürcher Zeitung, 17.10.2001

The Architekturzentrum Wien's Café Restaurant reopened

Opening hours:
Mon - Fri: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Sat: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Sun: 10:00 am - 06:00 pm

The French architects Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal were commissioned with the design of the cafe/restaurant. Their conceptual approach, realising intelligent architecture with a minimum of materials and budget, is well suited to the overall concept for the adaptation of the Az W premises. The central concept behind the design of the cafeteria is the thematic treatment of existing and apparently found layers combined with the most simple adaptation for the necessary functions. The dominant design element in the space is the vaulted ceiling, which has been clad with oriental tiles.

"It"s important to employ elements that stem from another part of the world - far better than always doing things that people anyway already know." (Anne Lacaton, Lacaton & Vassal)

The unplastered wall leading to the kitchen as well as the lighting are essential elements of the overall concept, alluding to the process of building.
